Meet Our Senior Triage Nurse

July 22, 2021

Last year, Centre Animal Hospital created a new position, that of Senior Triage Nurse, to assist our doctors with the volume of calls and requests we receive. Many of you have already been assisted by her, and many more of you will be when you call with your concerns. Here  is an introduction to our Senior Triage Nurse, Yvonne Kottwitz:

Hi! I’ve been a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) for 35 years after completing my coursework at Cornell’s prestigious Vet Tech program. After working for a private practice in Bath, NY, and starting a family, I came to Centre Animal Hospital in November of 2004.

Some of you have known me for many years. I worked as Dr. Calvert’s personal Tech for 10 years, of which is still at the top of my “best experiences” list.  On May 18, 2020, I became CAH’s first Senior Triage Nurse.  I am humbled to be blazing this trail for Dr. Calvert and Dr. Smart’s practice.  This position doesn’t require as much hands-on activity as I was accustomed to; however, it is the most challenging and fulfilling position I’ve ever been entrusted.

Some of my duties include answering varied questions, obtaining data from owners to help our doctors make recommendations, prescription refills, and discussions with owners on various medical issues, including metabolic conditions, nutrition, emergencies, and much more. To advocate for pets by helping our doctors is my job; preserving the human animal bond is my passion.

I’ve been married for over 30 years and have two adult children and a number of animal family members,  including my “heart dog,” a Cattle dog/Sheltie mix, a cat, a tri-color guinea pig and a carnival goldfish that has lived for more than ten years! In my leisure time, I enjoy walking with my dog, reading, gardening, bird watching, and riding my motorcycle.

I look forward to meeting you and helping with your pets!
